SPEAR MED Global Insights: Prof. Konrad Szocik Discusses the Bioethics of Commercial Spaceflight

Professor Konrad Szocik, renowned philosopher and bioethicist from the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow, Poland, recently delivered a profound lecture at Massachusetts General Hospital's historic Etherdome. Jointly organized by the Harvard Kennedy School, MGB SPEAR MED, and OSMED, the presentation explored the evolution of the "standard of care" for upcoming commercial space exploration missions. Prof. Szocik deeply explored how informed consent, acceptable risk, and mission profit pressures impact astronaut safety, while placing a heavy emphasis on issues of justice, equality, and the inclusion of historically marginalized groups.

MGB SPEAR MED is committed to exploring and leading the global conversation on the ethics of human space exploration, and was honored to host Prof. Szocik’s insightful lecture.

The full lecture will be available to view for OSMED members through its website.
