MIT Aerospace Physiology Lab Tests Wearable LBNP During Parabolic Flight

Dr. Lonnie Petersen and Dr. Brian Strickland from MGB SPEAR MED successfully completed an ESA/Novespace parabolic flight campaign to evaluate an innovative, wearable lower body negative pressure device. Developed by Dr. Petersen’s lab at the MIT Aerospace Physiology Lab, this technology was rigorously tested to gather biometric and performance data during simulated microgravity. The data obtained during the flight will allow spaceflight physicians to better understand and protect astronauts from internal jugular (IJ) vein thrombosis and Spaceflight-Associated Neuro-ocular Syndrome (SANS), two major health obstacles currently facing long-duration space travelers.

Special thanks to Ciarra Ortiz and Daniela Davalos from MIT APL.
